JASPER — Hundreds of friends and family gathered at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper to pay their respects to a Ball Ground woman who was killed in a car accident hours after her wedding Sunday.

Kali Shay Dobson Quinton, 25, died Sunday night just hours after marrying Ryan Patrick Quinton, 27, of Jasper, at the Wheeler House in Ball Ground. The bride, a native of Jasper, was thrown from the couple’s Pontiac Firebird on Highway 5 near Old Canton Road and died on the scene, authorities said.

At 2 p.m. Friday, car after car poured into the parking lot at the church near downtown Jasper for the funeral of the Pickens County High School graduate.

After the service, which didn’t allow news media inside, Quinton was laid to rest at Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery north of Jasper.

The sign outside of Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Friday afternoon contained a memorial for the bride.

“Kali Dobson Quinton, sheltered in the arms of Jesus,” the sign read.

Since her death Sunday night at about 8:30 p.m., many have expressed their deep regret the tragic loss of the life.

She was a singer and performer, who a family friend recalled having a beautiful voice. She also worked as an orthodontic assistant with Hiser Orthodontics in Cumming.

The orthodontics office posted on its condolences for the family on its Facebook page this week, as did customers of the business.

One woman wrote the news of a bride dying right after her wedding was bad enough. Then she realized it was Quinton.

“After spending five years at Hiser Orthodontics with both of my kids, Kali was like part of the family,” she wrote.

“My heart hurt just knowing that a bride died on her wedding day and now I’m devastated by this news.”

Another customer of Hiser recalled her as a beautiful and friendly woman who would joke with her son when they came in to see the doctor.

“She would say to Justin ‘You are going to be a real lady killer,’ (or) ‘flip that hair for me Justin!’” the woman wrote. “Our hearts break as she was a wonderful girl!”

Hours after the crash, others in the Jasper and Ball Ground areas also took to Facebook to pay tribute to the fallen bride.

One woman posted a picture of the newlyweds dancing during their reception as they held each other close.

The woman called Kali Shay Dobson Quinton a “beautiful, joyful bride.”

The Georgia State Patrol said earlier this week charges were pending in the case, awaiting blood tests from the scene. Blood test results are not expected to be available for several weeks.

The husband told authorities he lost control of the car because he was trying to miss a dog.
