The Acworth Police Department announced it is accepting applications for its 14th annual Citizens’ Police Academy, which opens March 4 and will take place every Tuesday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. except for the week of Spring Break. Graduation will be on May 19.

During the 12 weeks, participants will interact with officers and receive a basic understanding of the operations of the department and law enforcement. Graduates will be invited to ride along with officers during a tour of duty. All classes will be at the Acworth Police Department with a few off-site field trips.

Non-residents will be required to be sponsored for the Academy by a city business owner, Citizens’ Police Academy graduate or an Acworth Police officer. The class is free, but space is limited.

Participants must be 21 years of age and submit to a background screening. Participants must also submit an application that can be downloaded from acworth.org or picked up in person at the Acworth Police Department, 4400 Acworth Industrial Drive, Acworth. Finished applications can be mailed or faxed to the police department (678) 801-4059.

For information, contact Sgt. Michael Taylor at (678) 801-4073 or mtaylor@acworth.org.
