AUSTELL — An’Juan Royale Kemp joined the world early Wednesday morning as the first baby to be born in Cobb County in 2014.

Born weighing 7 pounds and 7 ounces to first-time parents De’Nea Ervin, 20, and Isaac Kemp, 22, both of Douglasville, An’Juan was resting contently Wednesday afternoon in the same hospital room that saw the first birth of 2013.

An’Juan was born at WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell at 1:27 a.m., after Ervin spent two and a half days in labor.

She was watching the clock Tuesday night hoping to deliver the first baby of the new year.

“I was looking for it,” Ervin said. “Twelve o’clock came and I was like, it’s going to be the first baby of the new year.”
