Prep Roundup: Tourney host Bucs win in semis

Daniel Fowler had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead undefeated Allatoona to a 66-60 semifinal win over Cartersville on Saturday in its Lake City Classic.

The Buccaneers (10-0) trailed 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, but they rallied behind a 25-14 second-quarter effort and held on for the victory.

Allatoona went 7-of-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and held Cartersville’s Corey Tobin, who made four first-half 3-pointers and had 14 points at the break, to only four points in the second half.

Fowler also had five assists and four steals for Allatoona, which collected its 100th win in program history.

Bradley Brevet chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, while Rodney Brown added nine points. Ephraim Tshimanga contributed eight points, seven steals and three rebounds.

Allatoona will face North Cobb Christian for the Lake City championship Monday at 8:30 p.m.

Walton 57, Arnold (Fla.) 37: The Raiders dominated the first half and won the semifinal-round game of the Marlin Classic in Panama City, Fla.

Walton advanced to the championship and will play Trinity Catholic (Fla.) for the title Monday night.

The Raiders matched a team record with a 10-0 start to the season.

Walton came out playing pressure defense in the first half, and it showed. It led 21-2 at the end of the first quarter and 35-11 at the break.

All 13 players scored for Walton. Nick Wells had 13 points to lead the way, with Maurice Gibson adding 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hillgrove 66, Duluth 55:
The Lady Hawks outscored the host team 22-9 in the first quarter and cruised to an 11-point win on the final day of the Duluth Jingle Jam.

Mackenzie Engram had a double-double with a team-high 28 points — including 12 in the first quarter — and 10 rebounds.

Tene Thompson added 17 points and five steals for Hillgrove (11-2), which host Kell on Saturday.

North Cobb 43, Fayette County 37: Chantel Strahorn scored 16 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a win in the Duluth Jingle Jam.

North Cobb (10-3) jumped out to a 21-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and then overcame foul trouble to hang on for the win.

Alexis Luster scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Aniya Corley had seven points and seven assists, Kyrie’ Chandler finished with seven points, and Kristian Carter added 10 rebounds.

North Cobb will host Campbell on Friday to resume Region 4AAAAAA play.

WRESTLING

Kennesaw Mountain wins Wildcat Invitational:
The Mustangs crowned five individual champions and scored 199 points to win the tournament at Valdosta.

Kennesaw Mountain beat out 15 other teams, including runner-up Ware County (185) and third place Pasco County (Fla.) (163), to take home the championship. Ten of the Mustangs’ 11 wrestlers scored points.

Justan Rivera totaled 30 points, going 4-0 with four consecutive pins at 184 pounds, and earned most outstanding wrestler honors. He pinned Berrien’s Ivan Herrera in 58 seconds for the title.

Matt Michaud and Augusto Paes each collected 27 points in going 4-0 at 134 and 140 pounds, respectively. Henrio Thelemaque totaled 24 points and won the 147-pound championship with a 4-0 mark. David White collected 26 points in finishing 4-0 at 222.

Brycen Colon went 5-1 and placed third at 154 pounds, while Brandon London was 3-1 as the runner-up at 162. Luis Medina’s 4-2 record earned him fifth place at 172 and Kobe Gadson finished 3-3 to place sixth at 285.
