Marietta police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash that occurred at about 3 a.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of North Marietta Parkway, between Wallace Road and Interstate 75.
The initial on-scene investigation revealed that a 20-year-old man was walking west bound on the North Marietta Loop, in the far right, right-turn lane, according to police.
The man was struck from behind by a latemodel Kia Spectra, a subcompact car, which left the scene of the crash, police said. Police said they are looking for a 2007 to 2009 Kia Spectra, either a hatchback or coupe model, with right-side passenger front-end damage.
The unidentified man was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital via Metro Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
“At this time, there are no known witnesses to this crash,” said Officer David Auld with Marietta Police. Police had not yet released the name of the victim as of press time because they were still trying to make contact with the man’s family.
"Next of kin notification is still pending,” said Auld. “There are no leads on this case.”
Anyone with any information regarding the hit and run is asked to call the investigator, Geoff Culpepper, at (770) 794-5357.
