Sarah Cox Pope, age 89, of Marietta, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013. Born in Ashville, Alabama, she graduated from Jacksonville State University and later moved to Marietta where she taught in the English Department at Sprayberry High School, at one time serving as cheerleading sponsor and actively supporting the athletic teams for a number of years prior to her retirement.  Mrs. Pope took great delight in seeing her former students around the area after she retired, many of whom are sure to remember her strict, old-fashioned teaching philosophy along with her sincere desire for their success.  Mrs. Pope was an active member of Roswell Street Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School class where she also enjoyed teaching the class for a number of years and greatly regretted when her failing health prevented her from being able to attend services in person.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed. Mrs. Pope was predeceased by her father and mother, Manly Cox and Pennie Dodd Cox, her son, Alan, daughter-in-law, Ann, and grandson, Charles.  Mrs. Pope was so proud that Alan C. Pope High School was named for Alan.  She is survived by Bob and Tina Pope, her son and daughter-in-law and granddaughters, Jessica, Amy, Jennifer, and Sarah, all of Acworth, her sister, Betty M. Fallis of Nashville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is planned for Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the many ministries of Roswell Street Baptist Church. www.mayeswarddobbins.com (770) 428.1511
