Atlanta official asks Cobb’s forgiveness

DEAR EDITOR:

The day the MDJ broke the news of the Braves’ move to Cobb was a long and frustrating one that I ended (by sending) an unacceptable email. It does not matter that I intended differently than the interpretation. What matters is that I offended the people of Cobb County, and for that I unreservedly apologize.

I apologize to Chairman Tim Lee, the county commissioners, and the state representatives and senators. Many of you have been gracious in your comments, a courtesy I undoubtedly did not deserve. Some of you have responded angrily, justifiably, as I would have, if someone maligned my home.

I apologize to Mayor Bacon and the Smyrna City Council. I often bring my kids to the Silver Comet Trail, one of the great amenities of our state. My words are entirely unreflective of my opinion of your fine city.

Lastly, to the people of Cobb County, many of whom I count as friends, it pains me to know that I may have insulted you. My parents live in Cobb. I will be spending Christmas there with my children. I can think of no clearer indication of my true opinion than that.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness.

Hans Utz

Deputy Chief Operating Officer

City of Atlanta

I understand that Mr. Hans Utz has apologized for his comment and that was the right thing to do. I do wonder why if Cobb is so bad, why does the Atlanta Police Chief live in the city limits of Marietta? It makes you wonder how many other of Atlanta's top staff live in Atlanta?

I remember when Atlanta was the city "Too Busy to Hate" but now it seems we're too busy hating to do anything else.
