On Nov. 19, a warrant was issued for Larry Sims and Nachia Chanelle Martinez on misdemeanor charges, with the investigation officer listed as Lt. Cheryl Shepard with the Department of Public Safety at the Cobb County animal shelter.
According to the warrant, the landlord of an apartment complex on Joseph Club Drive, west of Floyd Road, evicted the couple. According to police, when Sims and Martinez moved, two dogs were left behind.
The warrant said the dogs were willfully neglected because no food or water was left in the residence, “causing them to suffer from dehydration and malnutrition.”
“Upon being impounded by Cobb County Animal Control, the animals were found to be severely malnourished and near death,” the warrant stated.
One of the dogs, a two to three-year-old pit bull, died and the other, a six-month old puppy “is putting on weight and improving daily,” according to Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police.
If cleared by a veterinarian, since there are still complications, the female puppy, called Baby Hope, will be placed for adoption, Bowman said.
