“There are no provisional ballots so this is final,” said Janine Eveler, director of the Cobb Board of Elections. “It will be certified on Monday.”
Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins said he was pleased that Green, who previously served 12 years on the council, ousted Standard.
“He worked real good on the council,” Jerkins said of Green. “I’m glad to see him back. Martin Standard worked totally against the council, worked against me all the time, and he worked against the employees. He was totally against the government that I was running.”
Standard has accused the mayor of sending code enforcement officers against those who oppose his agenda.
In the Nov. 5 election, Green received 49 percent of the Ward 3 vote, with Standard and Turner tied at 25.5 percent. Those numbers triggered a runoff, since to win in Austell a candidate must have 50 percent of the votes plus one vote, Eveler said.
