A Cobb police officer shot and killed a man early Monday morning following a response to a domestic dispute at a Mableton home.

Officers arrived at 1591 Donna St. at 12:52 a.m. in reference to a 911 call for help.  The man had left the home prior to the officers’ arrival but returned to the scene while officers were still there trying to figure out what had transpired.

Within moments of returning to the residence, the man got out of his truck and drew a “weapon in the presence of the officers which immediately placed them in fear for their lives,” according to a statement issued by Cobb Police.

The man who was shot has been identified as 53-year-old Clarence Dorris of Mableton.  He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Cobb Police would not immediately identify the officer involved in the fatal shooting but said he has been placed on routine administrative leave.

This investigation continues.
