Ralph Edward Bounds, age 88 and resident of Smyrna, GA, went to Heaven on November 17, 2013. He was born on August 7, 1925 in Strawberry Plains, TN to Viva Viola and Charlie Fisher Bounds. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold and Bill Bounds. He is survived by his wife, Sara Bounds; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Todd Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Kerri Bounds; grandchildren, Carson and Ansleigh Brown and Mary Charles and Marshall Bounds; brother, Joe Bounds (Barbara); sister, Gail Loveday (Hugh); eight nieces, four nephews, and countless friends. Ralph volunteered for the US Navy at age 17 during World War II and served as a radioman from 1942-1946. Following the war, his forty-two year career began in Knoxville as a telegrapher for the Southern Railway. In 1966, he accepted a job in Atlanta working for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and later retired from CSX Transportation in 1988 as an Assistant Chief Dispatcher. In retirement, he worked for seventeen years as a Cobb County bailiff serving under Judge S. Lark Ingram. Ralph was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Nelms Lodge in Smyrna, GA. He was also a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church and the Pierce Matthews Men’s Bible Class. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the SFUMC God’s Light Youth Choir or The American Red Cross. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, November 19 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. A memorial service will be held 11 am Wednesday, November 20 at the Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Georgia National Cemetery with military honors.
