A McDonough woman has been arrested after carrying a gun into Cobb County Superior Court.

Veronica Marie Jones, 46, was found to be carrying a Silver Cobra gun into the courthouse when she placed her purse, which contained the gun, in an X-ray machine in the atrium of the courthouse.

Jones was arrested by Cobb County Sheriff officers and is charged with possessing a weapon in a public gathering place, a misdemeanor.

Nancy Bodiford, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, says officers who patrol the courthouse may allow individuals to return a “non-offensive” weapon, like a pocketknife, to their vehicle before entering, but a gun or a large knife are considered to be “offensive” weapons and are illegal to carry inside the courthouse.
