In making my decision to sell to Isakson Living, I took great consideration of the legacy my family would be leaving the community and thoughtful stewardship of the land where I have spent most of my life. There is considerable green space in the plan including enhancement to the park and protection for adjoining neighbors.
I am almost 82 and have watched east Cobb develop for many years. I know there are many seniors who want to remain in the community and have a need for services and support. I understand that better than most, given my age, and having witnessed the growth of the county and the needs that exist.
As people get older they need places to live in close proximity to where they currently reside. If this project is approved, the development will fill a compelling need in our community by providing homes for seniors and a beautiful natural setting with green spaces and services that seniors need. It is not going to reduce the value of surrounding neighborhoods in Cobb. To the contrary, it will do quite the opposite.
I have an agreement in place to proceed with Isakson Living and appreciate the significant steps they have taken to meet my wishes and the consideration they are giving the adjoining neighborhoods. Their proposal meets the needs of seniors, does not put more children on our schools, and still provides new tax dollars to the county to serve all citizens.
I am proud to be one the original “East Cobb Countians.” But, what does it say for a community that fails to provide for its elders?
