After the Cardinals scored with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter to cut the Yellow Jackets’ lead to six points, Osborne was never able to get ball back.
The Yellow Jackets attempted two passes the entire second half. One turned into a touchdown to Jontae Williams and the other was on a successful 2-point conversion.
The victory secured the Yellow Jackets (2-7, 1-3) an opportunity for a state playoff berth, if it can upset 7AAAAA (A) champion Creekview on Friday.
Osborne (2-7, 0-4) will wrap up its 2013 season at Forsyth Central.
“(Osborne) was explosive. They’re getting better and better every year,” Sprayberry coach Billy Shackelford said. “Instead of giving them too many opportunities, we just tried to grind the clock.”
Rakeem Myricks rushed for 142 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets. Shane Young added 102 more on 16 attempts and Shane King finished with 82.
Young also threw for 85 yards with both touchdowns going to Williams.
Sprayberry decided it needed to control the clock after it trailed 14-12 at the break.
The Yellow Jackets recovered an onside kick to start the second half and went on to outscore Osborne 15-7 in the third quarter.
Osborne controlled most of the first half and was leading
14-6 until Sprayberry scored prior to halftime. Then the Sprayberry onside kick attempt was a huge blow to the Cardinals.
“That kind of changed the momentum of the game,” Osborne coach Xarvia Smith said. “We were in control and they took it away from us. When we cut the score (in the fourth quarter) to bring it to six, we needed a stop and we could never get the ball.”
In attempt to run out the clock in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets took a chance going for it on fourth-and-1 at their own 30-yard line, and they converted.
Osborne had a total of six possessions in the game when it normally averages 10. The Cardinals only had one possession in the third quarter.
Quarterback Craig Robinson threw for 164 and four touchdowns and added 195 yards on the ground on 29 carries. Brian Ammons had two catches for 123 yards.
