Veteran asks: What price did Foley pay?

DEAR EDITOR:

I am a veteran. Let me qualify that statement. I took my first enlistment oath in 1959 and served honorably for the next 10 years (two years Reserve and eight years active duty). I remember “To protect against all enemies foreign and domestic, so help me God.” I long ago put away my uniforms and worked as a civilian the remainder of my working life. But I did not put away that oath and still hold it sacred.

I do not, nor do I suspect does any other veteran, want politicos speaking for me or theorizing what I might have thought had I paid the ultimate price. I certainly would not have appreciated those who did not serve doing so. Except maybe those loved ones left behind.

What do those who wish to express liberal or conservative views know? Did they endure basic training? Did they drop and give the D.I. (drill instructor) 20 pushups? Did they pull K.P. duty and feel alone in a far-away place at Christmas? Sitting in a classroom and taking notes from well-indoctrinated liberal professors or joining in protests does not qualify a person to speak for anyone and I wish MDJ columnist Kevin Foley (“An apology to Pvt. Parman,” Oct. 11 MDJ) and his kind would bear that in mind.

Pvt. David Parman took that same oath, died for his country to keep it safe and strong and paid the ultimate price for doing so. He has spoken for himself. Nothing else need be added. What price has Foley or those like him paid? Better yet, what price are they willing to pay?

G.V. Harper

East Cobb Senior - you're the coward, hiding behind anonymity.

Is Lib in Cobb also a coward, since he does the same thing? Or, is it okay for him because he always agrees with you?

You are both (?) hypocrites.

I did not serve and am a middle aged woman but I am glad our veterans here locally are speaking out when liberal progressives such as this columnist decide to co-opt random soldiers from far off cemeteries to use for their propaganda. This is what the Quakers and other anti-war people do...use the names and dramatize circumstances that they can't possibly know. The statistics show that most of the older generation did not support this Democrat president, who does not believe in American exceptionalism and also believes we are colonialists who need to be brought down a notch. When I saw the Obama movie here in East Cobb, the theater was filled with the Greatest Generation, every one of them sick to their stomachs after watching the movie explaining Obama's un-vetted background and upbringing by Communist grandparents, mentors and terrorist influences like William Ayers and that anti-American pastor of his. Please continue to speak out on this, dear veterans. The times that try mens' souls are in great need of your mature voices. You took the oath and are again stepping forward. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Just a girl.

Not a vet gets one thing right. Brainwashed Fox News viewers like her are dying out. That's why the only advertisers you see on Hannity or O'Reilly (who she perfectly parrots here) are for funeral insurance and catheter makers. Sad.

Mr. Foley, I am not a "FOX news watcher" but even if I was, it would not matter. I come from a generation that reads, a generation that has read history, and have studied our great nation. You insult people constantly, belittling them if you suspect they might watch a news channel? How did you ever start a business and employ anyone with your holier than thou attitude? It's rude and guess what...you are not better than anyone else just because you perceive them to have different views and you cannot simply dismiss our logic. Yours is no longer the party of John Kennedy, nor even that of Johnson or Bill Clinton. It has become the party that blames America, works against our success, boos and rejects even the idea of God, over and over at its convention. It's the party that embraces radical Muslims (ignoring their treatment of women and gays), anarchists of the Occupy "movement," and terrorists such as William Ayers and the Black Panthers. But you cannot address these issues so you invoke "FOX news" to make your false points.

Not a vet - Not a Fox watcher, huh? Bill Ayers? Unvetted background? Communist grandparents? Seriously?

How about GM is alive and OBL is dead?

I'm wrong. You're a Alex Jones or Glenn Beck fan.

Mr. Harper's would have merit if conservatives didn't loudly and continuously invoke the service and sacrifice of our veterans to claim moral superiority for themselves.

Foley, open your eyes and look around. Many of us conservatives are veterans, who offered our lives in defense of this country.

We are in a far better position to know what veteran's want and why they make the sacrifices, than someone who (in your own words) "chose not to serve", but went about feathering his own nest in the freedon of our capitalist form of economy, and who now uses his every breath to condemn others who are more sucessful than he, calling them the "filthy rich" and vilifying them.

The term "hypocrite" comes to mind.

Foley, to call you the scum of the earth would be a compliment. Most of the cowards, and I put you in that category, who hid behind and worship low lifes like Bill Ayers and others, rather than serve their country in uniform and now denigrate fallen service men by inferring that somehow Pvt. Parman and others that paid the ultimate sacrifice ascribe to your liberal socialist agenda is beyond shameful. You are disgusting and to impugn the lady who took you and your garbage column to task with specious accusations about whom she might or might now view on TV is typical of someone who is only interested in regurgitating the vile slime of liberals and their caustic thought processes.
