A Smyrna man was killed early Friday morning when he was hit by a train on a CSX track, which crosses Interstate 285 parallel to Cumberland Boulevard.

The train engineer contacted 911 to report that he had hit someone, according to Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found Daniel Rasmussen, 29, of Smyrna, dead on the railroad track, which is a narrow overpass that cannot be reached by a car, Bowman said.

Bowman said it is unclear why Rasmussen was on the track or if alcohol was involved.
