Mr. Tom Hobert Garland, age 82, of 410 Matthews Road, Adairsville, passed away Thursday (October 10, 2013) at the residence. Mr. Garland was born in Waleska, GA, November 5, 1930. He was veteran of the U. S. Army and of the Christian faith. Mr. Garland had worked at Ed Voyles Oldsmobile for over twenty years and Richard Wynn Pontiac in Cartersville as a mechanic and enjoyed restoring wrecked cars. Mr. Garland also enjoyed building houses, gardening, and being a jokester. He loved spending time with his family and friends and would do anything for them, especially giving all of them nicknames. He was preceded in death by his wife Dora. R. Garland, a daughter Yevonne Butler, 4 brothers, Coolidge, Homer, Jerry and Howard Garland, and a sister, Ruth Barton. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Briggs (Sherry) Garland of Woodstock; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri (David) Upshaw of Adairsville; 7 grandchildren, Aimee McClellen, Jenna and Hannah Garland, Reynolds and Rhett Butler, and Matthew Upshaw; a brother and sister-n-law, Dennis (Evelyn) Garland of Adairsville; a sister, Bernise Garland of Dallas; Nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Garland officiating. Interment followed in Faith Tabernacle Cemetery. Pallbearers included Ferrell Barton, Michael Garland, Robert Garland, Glenn Garland, Danny Garland, and Reynolds Butler. R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, was in charge of arrangements for Mr. Tom Garland
