MARIETTA — An east Cobb community was stunned by the killing of an area woman and the arrest of her husband, who neighbors say used a wheelchair.

Cobb County police arrested 67-year-old David Rex York Jr. at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in the death of his wife, Lynn York, 66. Police say a man who identified himself as Lynn York’s husband called 911 and told a dispatcher his wife had been shot.

When police arrived, they found Lynn York dead from gunshot wounds in the home in the 4,200 block of Bishop Lake Road near Johnson Ferry Road.

David York Jr. is charged with aggravated assault and murder, and is being held without bond at the Cobb County jail.

Police have not released a possible motive.

The affluent house decorated meticulously with pumpkins and other Halloween decorations showed no signs on Monday afternoon that a death had taken place in the home over the weekend. Window blinds were open, ceiling fans blowing and landscapers worked on the front lawn.

A few houses down on the winding, tree-lined road, Mara Miller was in disbelief. She knew the Yorks well and had the “highest regard for these people.”

Calling the shooting a tragedy, Miller said she has lived near the couple for the past 17 years and they had become friends.

“They’ve been in my home for social activity,” Miller said. “We go to the same church.”

Miller returned from church on Sunday morning to find activity at the Yorks’ home down the road.

“The first thing I think about is, did David have a heart attack, but it was more than that,” Miller said.

She had offered her condolences to the family and said they were asking for privacy.

David Powers also lives near the home where police say the shooting took place and described the Yorks as “the sweetest couple.”

David York Jr. was in poor health and spent most of his time in a wheelchair, Powers said, and his wife was his caregiver.

Lynn York waved when she drove by Powers’ home and would occasionally stop to chat.

“It’s stuff you see on the news and until it happens down from your home you don’t really think about it,” Powers said.

When will Cobb as a society address the plague of spousicides and suicides in East Cobb? Oh wait, East Cobb Republican types believe in so such thing as society, as that would be socialism right? West Cobb, you are only a few years away from the -cides, so don't get too comfortable and smug.

If you were unhappy prior to your "arrival" in East West Ruralburban Cobb, and it's a good bet you were if you're the type who wants to move to Ruralburban Cobb, you will remain unhappy after you move to Ruralburban Cobb.

Ruralburban Cobb is the land of one uppers, strip malls, fast food, traffic and most of all, disappointment.

Unless you are THE top dog, and there is only ONE top dog and it ain't you, someone will always one up you. That leaves you with traffic and the disappoint and the eventual realization the Ruralburban Cobb WalMart is just a WalMart with the same junk as the Big Chicken WalMart but higher prices.

Move to the South end of the county. You come across much better suited for that area. Good try though.
