KENNESAW — A 22-year-old Austell woman was charged early Saturday morning in the shooting of a 21-year-old Kennesaw State University student, who friends said had no enemies and was beautiful inside and out.

A road rage incident that started at 2 a.m. Friday morning ended in the death of Kim Kilgore, outside a gated apartment complex in north Cobb, said Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police.

Pierce said two drivers had an altercation along Shiloh Road, which led to a physical confrontation outside of the vehicles in the parking lot in Shiloh Green Apartments, near building 100.

Sparkles Lashayla Lindsey pulled out a gun and shot Kilgore in the head, according to the arrest warrant. Kilgore was transported to a WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where she died Friday afternoon.

Lindsey was charged with aggravated assault and murder, according to arrest reports, and is being held without bond in the Cobb County jail.

Lindsey was previously arrested on June 4 and appeared in court in January and February for simple battery charges, according to Cobb County Superior Court records.

A co-worker, a young daughter, a best friend

The love for Kilgore stretched across the entire county and beyond as news spread about the shooting and her battle to live.

Kilgore was a Paulding County High School graduate and former member of the KSU sorority Gamma Phi Beta.

On Friday, students from the KSU campus started a Twitter discussion under #prayforkim, where friends responded to updates about Kilgore’s condition and sounded off about the violent crime.

Written on the windows of the old-fashioned Collett County Store in Powder Springs, where Kilgore had worked for nearly three years, were the words, “RIP. We love and miss you Kim.”

On a bench outside the front doors of Johnny’s BBQ restaurant, which houses the store at 4179 Marietta St., sat a sign with personal messages and flowers.

Inside the rustic building, at a long wood table, sat Kilgore’s coworkers, who are more like a close-knit family, sharing somber stories with a few smiles.

Owner Rick Collett, who bought the restaurant 10 years ago, said Kilgore was a dependable worker, who would come in early and stayed late.

“Sometimes you wouldn’t even have to ask her for help,” Collett said. “KK never quit.”

A group of young women who all served customers at the BBQ joint with Kilgore said she was always giggling and could brighten the day of anyone in a bad mood.

“She was a very happy, loving-life, kind of person,” said Emily Benton, who is 20 years old and lives in Powder Springs. “She was one of the best people you could ever know in your life.”

Collett said he placed a huge jar on the front counter of the restaurant to collect donations that will be given to Kilgore’s mother, Becky Kilgore.

“We pray that her family finds peace,” Benton said.

When he heard about the shooting on Friday, Collett said he instantly cautioned his children, daughter Savannah, 17, and son Chas, 22, about being cautious when away from home.

Collett said he also advises his staff of teenage girls to always stay together when out in public, not fill their gas tanks up at night, and “be aware of your surroundings.”

Another KSU student and waitress at Johnny’s BBQ, Shannon Stone, was Kilgore’s best friend, roommate, and passenger in the car the night of the shooting, according to Benton.

On Stone’s Facebook page, under a picture of the two young women hugging with bright smiles, Stone wrote, “You are my sister, you (were) going to be my maid of honor, we were going to live on the same road when we were older and let our kids grow up together and be like us.”

Folks keep in mind that the Al Sharpton's and the Jesse Jacksons are CIVIL RIGHTS activists who have an agenda to defend BLACKS who they feel have received an injustice. I am black and often hear others state "why doesn't anyone defend or make an issue of a white being killed in such a manner by a black person"? Well that is a question to ask the white community. I feel you all SHOULD get together and fight for injustices to your race (not the KKK),if you suspect reverse discrimination but it appears there really is no "spokesperson" for your concerns and there should be! I am outraged that this young beautiful woman with a promising life ahead of her got cut short by ANYONE black or white. Unfortunately when something like this happens it brings out the true nature and feelings towards ALL people of color including those who have absolutely nothing to do with this or would NEVER even think of committing a crime. The commentor who says the "sparkles" aren't welcome are only referring to those of color period. I think people should direct their anger towards INDIVIDUALS who committ crimes not the entire RACE. I have never been arrested or been on welfare and have always had a job since I was able to work so Stereotyping is never a way to solve a problem. Contrary to popular belief there are MANY blacks (like me) who aren't affluent but have no desire and never will committ a crime. I do agree there are some real issues within the Black community, (I can see that) but I feel it stems from within their family circle or lack there of and that needs to be dealt with but don't single out an entire RACE to point fingers. Me and many other Blacks I know are APALLED by this! God bless the family and friends of this young woman who lost her life and may justice be served!

I find your comments insightful, touching & believable. It is truly unfortunate that no national white leaders have the guts to defend whites against black hatred & murder. It is also tragic that innocent blacks like you get lumped together with evil blacks like this monster Sparkles who killed Kim.

Having said that, 97% of all blacks support Obama and his monstrous socialist, anti-freedom ideology. Virtually all blacks are against the constitutional rights of whites to enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of association and the right to own property AND to determine who may or may not be allowed access to that private property. Virtually ALL blacks support institutional & government discrimination against whites, and support lower academic standards for blacks to gain college or job acceptance.

As such, I regard virtually ALL blacks as my domestic enemies -- no matter how "nice" and "decent" they may appear to be. Detroit is what happens when blacks rule.

There are more and more and more "Sparkles" filling up North and West Cobb, turning into another South Cobb. Increased noise pollution, violence, and just generally crappy attitudes. Memo to the "Sparkles" out there, we've been happy and quiet for decades. Don't screw it up for the rest of us like you do every place else you bring your crappy attitudes into.

I"m someone who knew Kimberly I'm also black I don't like the fact that people are making this a race thing. Yes I believe Sparkle should be placed under the jail to riot for what she has done. No one black or white deserved to have there live taken away from someone who is just a thug and stupid. And a thug and being stupid can come in any color.

Liar.

95% of the violent, senseless crime comes from the black "community" who institutes "No Snitch" policies, offer money for the "Head" of people like Zimmerman who defend themselves from black crime and inculcates the thug "culture" in rap music.

Street murder under the names of "Polar Bear Hunting", "Beat Whitey Night" and "Knock Out King" and Flash Mob/Rob come in only one color, black.

You are completely right that a thug can come in any color. I think the problem people are having with this is that Trayvon Martin's murder made the national news, while this story has barely made the local news. It just seems like the Al Sharpton's and Jesse Jackson's of the world don't care about injustice unless it's towards a black person. I don't care what color you are, you don't murder someone just because you think they cut you off, or something equally stupid. I hope Sparkle rots in jail for the rest of her natural born life.

No ones's child deserves to be shot over road rage. Its ridiculous. It doesnt matter what happen except for Kim is dead for no reason. My classmate lost his daughter for a senseless reason.

Perhaps just a simple "my bad" to Sparkles would have calmed the situation. Obviously, there was some disrespecting going on with both groups.

October 14, 2013
Out of curiosity why would you say that? Of course that would seem the case, but is there anything else released yet?

Where the road rage happened? What exactly happened during the road rage? What do witnesses say happened in the parking lot prior to the shooting? A lot of witnesses considering the lack of information.

Either way a truly tragic event.
disrespecting???

October 14, 2013
So murder (just like in south Atlanta) all boils down to a little "disrespecting"?

So there is little blame because of "disrespecting"?

So murder is so simple and people are dead because of a little "disrespecting"?

So what kind of world of "disrespecting" do you live?

So take out your conceived "disrespecting" with

a gun and even - uneven- the disrespect?

So am I to believe that "disrespecting" is all that caused someone to DIE and that's OK?

Taking revenge for "disrespecting" has no place in civilized society.

I suspect you have been infiltrated with the gangsta mentality where "disrespecting" is the gangsta way. Yo ??

unbelievable!

Thank you, disrespecting???, for putting Joey Davis in his place. You said everything I was feeling, only much more eloquently and a lot nicer than I would have. Joey Davis, you are an idiot. oops, "my bad."

Sparkle was not some outstanding citizen by no means. If I had done some of the things she has been arrested for I would be UNDER the jail. Instead Cobb County has allowed this thug to roam the streets and now murder. Below are her previous arrests....

11/08/11-fighting in public place, simple battery(physical harm) and battery

08/13/12-obstruction law enforcement, battery

06/04/13-arrested in the courtroom

10/12/13-current arrest

When will the county start being hard on these criminals??? STOP slapping them on the wrist and sending them out to continue to commit crimes!!!!!

Sparkles Lindsey has been arrested at least SEVEN times and was out of jail on a work release program......According to the TV news, her other arrests were for assault type law breaking.

Information must be released about her. The public deserves to know about this. Because when the lawyers get hold of the case it will end up sounding like Sparkles Lindsey was a sweet little bunny rabbit who had a halo... Her court appointed lawyer will be well appointed. She will be lifted up above the law for Cobb is famous that way. DA's should be fearless, but this one will not be. Poor little Kim, murdered in the street just like it was Atlanta, watch out people the mayhem is here. You might be next!!!!!!!!

Why hasn't the MDJ posted a picture of the girl arrested for the murder. There is speculation that race was involved in the initial altercation.

I surely hope that all the girls in the car with the shooter will be arrested as accessories to the murder!

Yes, also arrest everyone she knew as well because that is how the law works.... (sarcasm). Sitting in a vehicle does not constitute being an accessory to a crime....

Have a great day though, bless you heart!

Gang? I thought carrying guns was the American way, the more the better! Especially since Kennesaw requires its residents to bare arms.
