Get into the football spirit at MHS from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Blue Devil Block Party & Food Truck Fest sponsored by the Marietta Schools Foundation. The party takes place on Winn Street in front of Marietta Middle School before, during, and after the homecoming parade. Bring a blanket and chairs and enjoy great food and a good time. Music will be performed by Bert Reeves.
The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. from the juror’s parking lot between Lemon Street and Waddell Street and proceeds around the Marietta Square, ending at Northcutt Stadium. The kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. when MHS takes on Kennesaw Mountain High School at Northcutt Stadium.
“Football has always been a community event, especially in the South. I think the reason for this is all the fanfare and nostalgia that comes with it. Not only does the community rally around the football team, they also support the marching band and the cheerleaders,” said Paul Hall, director of athletics for Marietta City Schools.
“This (football) tradition has always been rich in the city of Marietta,” said Hill, a Marietta resident who graduated in 1989 from MHS, where he played football.
Events like these are a way for fans to reconnect to their school.
“The fact that the festivities take place in front of our historic MHS building, now Marietta Middle School, only makes it more special for the numerous generations of former students who have fond memories of growing up in our wonderful, independent, and highly-awarded school system,” said Dawn McEachern, a 1989 graduate of MHS who coordinates the event. Her father, two sisters and maternal grandmother are also MHS graduates.
“Even those who did not go to Marietta High School can feel and appreciate the history and nostalgia. This event is a great way to celebrate that and add to what is already a great homecoming game night,” McEachern said.
Northcutt Stadium is at 121 Winn St.
