Re: Editorial, “Obamacare: Shutdown risks making it permanent,” Sunday’s MDJ

You should be ashamed! “Because Congress has failed to do its work … failure to raise debt limit … dire and unpredictable consequences … failing to raise the debt limit is unconstitutional … a showdown is likely to get very ugly … current strategy is likely to blow up.”

Our country was founded by men who believed in these words and helped bring forth the US Constitution which laid out responsibilities of those who would accept the role of member of the House of Representatives and all who serve in that House swore to “support and defend” and “well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office.” The men and women of the House who are saying “Enough borrowing without any plan to pay it back” and who say “We cannot raise the revenue so we cannot afford to buy …” are doing exactly what the U.S. Constitution says they should be doing. They are patriots and you should be ashamed for being cowards unwilling to support what you know is common sense.

We, the citizens of the U.S., with the blessing of the House of Representatives, borrow one-third of everything Congress agrees to spend. Our citizens know that Congress is not following the Constitution. We want Congress to change.

Your editorial is an insult to our Founding Fathers and to the representatives trying to do the job they solemnly swore to do! The Constitution set up checks and balance and gave the House of Representatives the job to control spending by giving them the keys to the purse strings. It is time to take them back.

The president does not have the authority to borrow and spend with oversight. I applaud those in the House standing up for their oath and their Constitution.

Jim Leagan

Thanks for the great letter. What is happening in this country is a national disgrace. Under the Obama administration we have lost countless freedoms. And the beat goes on. This no longer feels like our country. I, too, applaud the few brave men and women in government who dare to stand up and fight back.

The writer thinks GOP whacko-birds are doing things the way the Founders would do them? Poppycock.

Mr. Leagan should read his history. If he does, he'll learn the Founders believed in the rule of law. Obamacare is the law of the land, passed by Congress, signed into law and upheld by SCOTUS. The GOP staked the 2012 presidential run on repealing it and lost.

Stop with your whining already.

Enough with the name calling, foley. If you can't address an issue and disagree in a civilized manner, SHUT UP!!

Readers are tired of your crap.
