The couple met while attending Carson-Newman College and married after Jim graduated before entering the Navy OCS in Rhode Island. Lillian retired from Marietta City Schools. Jim served as Headmaster of the Walker School in Marietta, later retiring after 11 years with Cobb County Schools and 5 years at Chattahoochee Technical College. The Lyles served 67 years in education. They are members of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta.
The couple’s children, Jim Jr. of Hot Springs, N.C.; Scott of Baltimore, Md.; and Kimberly Anne of Bozeman, Mont. were all home for the celebration.
The “Senior 5” from South Cobb High School class of ’57 have been on the go again.
They recently returned home from a trip to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Fun was had by all and they are already planning their next adventure. Three of the girls — Barbara Paine, Carolyn Whitlow and Joan Key — started first grade together at Mableton Elementary School and graduated from South Cobb together.
Cobb Photographic Society will participate in the sixth annual North Georgia Camera Club Council Photography Club Shootout on Oct. 12. Hosted by the Georgia Nature Photographers Association, the event will be at Emory at Oxford College in Oxford, which is near Covington.
At the one-day event teams from local photography clubs compete against each other for individual and club cash prizes provided by Showcase Camera and Video. There is also more than $6,000 in door prizes from various vendors available to the participants this year. Winners are announced during an award presentation to end the day. The day also includes presentations and displays from photography related vendors.
Cobb Photographic Society meets in Marietta the first and third Monday of each month. Photographers of all levels are encouraged. For more information, contact Cobb Photo at www.cobbphotosociety.org.
