The Lady Hoyas won with ease over Campbell (25-11, 25-13), Allatoona (25-14, 25-16) and Mount Paran Christian (25-7, 25-19). They also beat Lassiter, only to get a second-set scare before prevailing 25-14, 25-23.
Still missing standout player Caroline Ostman, Harrison got plenty of output elsewhere, particularly from Taylor Haskins, who had 36 kills, 19 digs and four aces on the night.
Katie Doering added 25 kills, Destiny Stewart 18 and Andie Karmel 16. Madi Bright’s 72 assists helped manufacture Harrison’s 99 total kills.
Defensively, Jocelyn Mahayag had 40 digs, Sarah Taylor had 24, Bright 23 and Kaylee McClure 16. Doering had a team-best 8½ blocks, too.
Harrison (32-8) will continue in tournament play Saturday at Allatoona, after many of the other pools complete pool play with single matches.
North Cobb sweeps through pool play: With one pool match left to play Saturday, the Lady Warriors helped their cause with sweeps of Wheeler (25-15, 25-13), Marietta (25-16, 25-16) and host Walker (25-19, 25-17).
Savannah Gonzales led North Cobb (23-9) with 26 kills and five aces, while Abby Miller had 20 kills and Kaitlyn Woodruff 11. Christina Matacotta had seven aces, and Taylor Parrish 65 assists.
Defensively, Tate Pember’s 20 digs, Matacotta’s 18 and Woodruff’s 3½ blocks led the way.
Hillgrove wins two: The Lady Hawks beat McEachern (17-25, 25-18, 15-13) and South Cobb (25-6, 25-8) before losing to host Pope (15-25, 21-25) in pool play.
Myah Martin had five aces and 38 assists for Hillgrove (13-13). Mackenzie Engram added nine kills, while Janna Jerigan totaled 11 aces, seven digs and seven kills. Chioma Okwonko contributed three aces, six digs and 15 kills. Maddie Johnson collected 11 digs.
Lassiter takes two: Libby Bochniak and Sam Link each posted double-doubles as the Lady Trojans beat Campbell (25-11, 25-10) and Mount Paran Christian (25-15, 25-21) before losing to host Harrison (25-14, 25-23).
Bochniak totaled 18 kills and 10 digs for Lassiter (20-14), while Link had 54 assists and 11 digs. Micah Ensor added 12 kills and four aces.
Walker wins three: The Lady Wolverines beat Marietta (25-12, 25-18), Kell (25-17, 25-19) and Wheeler (25-10, 25-9), but they lost to North Cobb (25-19, 25-17) at home as part of pool play.
Brooke Warner totaled 28 kills and four blocks for Walker (20-6). Sasha Fazylov added 28 kills, seven aces and 16 digs, while Jordan Tasman also had 17 kills, 10 digs and eight aces. Anna Chocallo collected 34 digs and nine aces. Holland Martin dished out 36 assists with 12 digs and six aces.
Kennesaw Mountain wins two in pool play: The Lady Mustangs won two of three matches during the opening day of pool play in the county tournament.
Kennesaw Mountain beat South Cobb (25-8, 25-6), then needed three sets to down McEachern (18-25, 25-18, 15-8). The Lady Mustangs fell to Pope (25-14, 25-17).
Lindsey Mason led the way with 26 kills and nine aces. Kaleigh Nance had 47 assists, Mia Griffiths finished with 11 digs and Ellen Bourter added 10 aces.
Allatoona wins a pair: The Lady Buccaneers won a pair of matches during the opening day of pool play, beating Campbell (25-18, 25-23) and Mount Paran Christian (28-26, 20-25, 15-7).
Allatoona lost to Harrison 25-14, 25-16.
Jenna Usry had 15 kills for the Lady Buccaneers, while Katie Cory had 62 digs, Samantha Nettie eight blocks and Jaslynn Gwyn three aces.
North Cobb Christian 2, St. Francis 1: Amber Buettner had six kills to lead the Lady Eagles to a 25-22, 17-25, 29-27 non-area win.
Rachel Wilczynski led North Cobb Christian with 16 digs and six aces, while Buettner also had three blocks.
Holy Spirit 3, Dominion Christian 0: Kate Worley and Sabrina Johnston each had five kills as the Lady Knights lost 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
Lucy Niverson added 12 assists, Johnston had five serves, Worley two blocks and Lenlie Millwood 15 digs.
North Cobb 8, Hillgrove 1: The Lady Warriors upset the Region 4AAAAAA leader, though the win wasn’t enough to put them in contention for a region title and a guaranteed top-two seed.
Instead, North Cobb (18-7, 5-2) will have to vie with the remainder of the region for its third and fourth seeds into the state playoffs. Hillgrove (22-4, 6-1) will host Kennesaw Mountain in a best-of-three series for the region championship.
In the team’s region finale, North Cobb jumped ahead with seven runs from the fifth inning on.
Kayla Trumbull was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Casey Page was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two driven in and a stolen base.
Jordan Lewis hit a three-run double that narrowly missed becoming a grand slam, while Iman Muhummed and Bryanna Vazquez each scored twice.
Michelle Forrester had a home run for Hillgrove, which will be off until a split-doubleheader Sept. 28 at Lassiter, also including Woodland-Bartow.
Olivia Mould (12-4) struck out two, walked one and allowed four hits for North Cobb, which will travel to Blessed Trinity on Tuesday.
Allatoona 13, Rome 0 (4 inn.): A 10-run third inning blew the Region 5AAAAA game wide open.
Allatoona (19-7, 8-0), which had 15 hits on the day, continued its hold of the region lead with two games remaining. No other region team has fewer that two losses.
Morgan Kazerooni went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs, while Erika Dunbar was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Madisyn Escue was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Hailey Reagor contributed a double and two RBIs.
Makenzie Colwart (13-3) struck out five and allowed just one baserunner on a single. Allatoona promptly doubled that player off the base on a line drive.
Kennesaw Mountain 15, Campbell 0 (3 inn.): The Lady Mustangs scored five runs in the first inning, four in the second and six in the third inning to invoke the run-rule in the Region 4AAAAAA home game.
Kathryn Woody didn’t allow a hit and struck out four in two innings of work. She also batted 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Madison Lewis, who was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, including a three-run double in the second inning, didn’t allow a hit and struck out two in relief.
Lilly Wright batted 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Lady Mustangs (18-2, 6-1), who had 12 hits. Kayla Aarons was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Amber Johns had two RBIs and Emily Bagnell scored twice and had an RBI.
Kennesaw Mountain will begin play at the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday.
Pope 8, Osborne 0 (5 inn.): Kelly Barnhill (2-0) struck out 14, walked and hit a batter in posting a no-hitter in the Region 7AAAAA home game.
After Pope (11-7, 5-2) took a 3-0 first-inning lead, nine batters came to the plate in the Lady Greyhounds’ five-run fourth.
Megan Metzinger was 1-for-3 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored. Katie Deady had a hit and an RBI, stole two bases, and scored a run. Ellyn Strother produced an RBI double.
Pope, which had 10 hits, will travel to Cambridge on Tuesday.
Harrison 13, Marietta 0 (4 inn.): The Lady Hoyas used an eight-run third inning to roll to a Region 4AAAAAA victory.
Bridgette Rainey led the way going 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three RBIs. She also pitched three innings to earn the win.
Rachel Farris went 2-for-2 with two doubles and drove in three, Abby Broome was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Kellie Carroll finished 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two.
Harrison (16-5, 4-2) will host Etowah on Monday.
