Prep Roundup: Lady Warriors held to two wins in play date

North Cobb won two of five matches Saturday in the competitive field of a play date at South Forsyth.

The Lady Warriors beat Northview (25-17, 25-16) and Lambert (25-21, 25-20), but they lost to Blessed Trinity (25-11, 25-17), South Forsyth (32-30, 23-25, 15-11) and Chattahoochee (25-17, 25-11).

Abby Miller had 26 kills and nine aces on the day, while Kaitlyn Woodruff fininshed with 21 kills. Savanna Gonzales added 36 kills.

Christina Matacotta finshed with 34 digs and six aces, Taylor Parrish had 92 assists and five aces, and Kate Pember added 51 digs and five aces.

The Lady Warriors (18-9) will have an Area 3AAAAAA tri-match Tuesday at Harrison, where they will play Douglas County and Kennesaw Mountain.

McEachern sweeps tri-match: The Lady Indians won twice, beating South Cobb (25-18, 25-14) and Lithia Springs (17-25, 25-17, 25-21).

Kiara Finley had 14 kills and three aces, Katie Martin had six kills and four aces and Ziendra Bridges added six kills and five blocks.

The Lady Indians (7-5) will have an Area 3AAAAAA quad-match Tuesday at Pebblebrook, where they will also face South Cobb and Campbell.


Mount Paran girls fourth, boys sixth at Carrollton Invitational: The Lady Eagles were six points behind Providence Christian, while the boys settled for sixth.

Emily Blom took fourth overall in the Class A meet in 22 minutes, 19 seconds. Mount Paran also had two other runners — Makenzie Kitchens (23:26) and Emily Spillane (24:01) — place in the top 20. Other runners who helped score were Emma Johnson and Madison Long.

The Mount Paran girls are currently ranked seventh in Class A.

For the boys, Joey Carr was second overall with a time of 17:35. Jake Landen, Holt Shannon, Graham Kington and Jackson Calhoun also contributed.


Late Friday

Marietta 8, Pacelli 0 (5 inn.):
Taylor Hartenbach struck out nine as the Lady Blue Devils earned a pool-play victory in the Warrior Classic.

Liz Osburn hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. Hartenbach added a two-run single and Bria Gober finished 2-for-3.


Late Friday

North Georgia 21, Johnson Ferry 14:
Mason Meadows threw for 136 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as the Saints fell.

Johnson Ferry had a chance to tie or win in the final seconds, but Meadows was ruled to be down at the 1-yard line as time expired.

Luke Chauncey had three receptions for 59 yards. Elijah White finished with 13 tackles and a sack, while Asa Meadows had 12 tackles and a sack.
