Tom Durrett, 82, of Temple, GA died Wednesday, September 11, 2013. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Todd Brown officiating. Interment will be in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Durrett was born to Watson and Katie Durrett in Carroll County on December 23, 1930. He moved to Marietta in 1944 at the age of 15 and worked selling newspapers for the Marietta Daily Journal. He also worked for the Marler Thomas Service Station between the years 1948-1950; Marler Oil Company from 1950-1967. He opened Durrett Royal Tire in 1967 later called Durrett Tire Service, three stores, 2 in Marietta and 1 in Austell. He opened Durrett Automotive in Lithia Springs in 1998, Rome Bandag in 2005 in Rome, GA. Tom Durrett knew his business and it showed. He made a great career as owner and manager of Tom Durrett’s Royal Tire Service in Marietta. Mr. Durrett was a Mason and Shriner and was active in civic clubs. He was a member of Yorkville Baptist Church. He married Margaret Mann in 1950 and they together had 4 children. Mr. Durrett is survived by his wife, Margaret Mann Durrett; son, Richard E. Durrett and his wife, Josephine; three daughters, Freda Nichols and her husband, Jim, Terri Turnbull and Margie Durrett; three sisters, June Crowe, Catherine Montgomery, Judi Snelson; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
