ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Cummiskey is leaving his post to join Southern Co.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday that Cummiskey will be chief commercial officer of Southern Power.

Deal said in a statement that he has nominated U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson's chief of staff, Chris Carr, to succeed Cummiskey as the commissioner of the Department of Economic Development.

The governor said in the statement that Carr is respected throughout the state and that he expects him to continue Cummiskey's work and bring more economic expansion to Georgia.
