The Cowboys disbanded but still kept in touch. On Aug. 24, T.W. Lord and Atkins hosted a “Back in the Saddle” barbecue at the old drugstore location.
Among the members, most who attended were former commission chairman Bill Byrne, Mayor Steve “Thunder” Tumlin, former Congressmen Buddy Darden and Bob Barr, former State Representative Bill Atkins, Marietta businessman Pat McPherson, Smyrna businessman Billy Martin, Marietta City Councilman Andy Morris, and Sheriff Neal Warren. Honorary Drugstore Cowgirls attending were Harriett Atkins, Jennifer Atkins, Babe Atkins-Byrne, Charlene Gill and Hope Langston.
Gene Bradley also attended. Bradley was at the drugstore every Saturday to dispense coffee and soft drinks for the cowboys.

Amanda Kyle Williams, a Decatur native and author of psychological thrillers, will be the featured speaker at the Cobb Library Foundation “Booked for Lunch” event on Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. at the Georgian Club.
Reviewers and fellow mystery authors have praised this increasingly popular author’s first two books, “The Stranger You Seek” and “Stranger in the Room.” The books’ protagonist, Keye Street, has been compared to Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch and Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Milhoune. The third book in the series, “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” will be published in February.
The luncheon is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the Cobb Library Foundation website at www.cobblibrary
