KENNESAW — An estimated 20,000 people are expected to flock to downtown Kennesaw on Saturday for the city’s annual tasting event where attendees can try out local fare from 40 area restaurants.

The fifth annual Taste of Kennesaw will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event, conducted each year to raise money for five local charities, is sponsored by Superior Plumbing, the city of Kennesaw, the Kennesaw Business Association and JRM Management Services.

It benefits Kennesaw Mountain High’s Shop with a Mustang, North Cobb High’s Shop with a Warrior, Kell High’s Shop with a Longhorn, MUST Ministries and the Jerry Worthan Community Christmas Fund.

“When we started this out, we wanted any proceeds from this to go back to the community,” said Kennesaw Business Association president and event chair Mike Everhart.

Last year, the event raised $12,500, and each charity received $2,500. Everhart said their goal is to at least match that amount again this year.

The Taste of Kennesaw will feature a beer garden and 40 Kennesaw-area restaurants — up from 30 in 2012 — and participants can taste test various eateries’ dishes at a cost of $1 to $4 each.

There will also be children’s activities, including a rock wall, inflatable slides, bounce houses and a trackless train.

Once again, the railroad crossing at Cherokee Street will be blocked for the event. If you are unfortunate enough to live on Cherokee, do your shopping today.
