Kon Sarin, 29, was arrested at Rosemont Cityview apartments on Barnes Mill Road in Marietta at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He remains in the Cobb County Jail without bond.
The Marietta resident has been charged with two counts each of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He is accused of first trying to break into the Canton Package Store at 1769 Canton Road at 4:30 a.m. but was unable to gain entry because the store was closed. He then reportedly went into the Blackwell Chevron gas station at 3349 Canton Road at 7:50 a.m. Armed with a dark handgun, he demanded money from the cashier, and again at 10 a.m. made the same demand at the Chevron Food Mart at 288 Powers Ferry Road.
According to the two arrest warrants from the Cobb and Marietta police departments, Sarin allegedly stole $300 from the Chevron Food Mart near the intersection of South Marietta Parkway and Powers Ferry Road in east Cobb, and $1,053 was taken from the Blackwell Chevron near the intersection of Canton and Blackwell roads northeast of Marietta.
Officer David Baldwin with Marietta Police said the arrest was a joint effort between Marietta and Cobb police departments and detectives from both agencies were at the scene Tuesday night when Sarin was arrested without incident.
“Marietta Police Crime Scene detectives got a break in the case when they were able to positively identify the suspect, Kon Sarin, through forensic evidence that was gathered at the scene of the Powers Ferry Road robbery,” a Marietta Police release states. “Both Marietta and Cobb Police Detectives then worked together throughout (Tuesday) to track down the suspect and eventually located him in an apartment where he was taken into custody.”
There are still charges pending from Marietta Police Department, which Baldwin said is reviewing evidence for the attempted burglary at the Canton Package Store.
