The most charitable way of explaining the election results of 2012 is that Americans voted for the status quo, for the incumbent president and for a divided Congress. The people voted for a Congress that will not increase their taxes and a president who will give them free stuff.
There are three reasons Romney lost the election of 2012: The conservative virtues of liberty, hard work, free enterprise, private initiative and aspirations to moral greatness no longer inspire a majority of the electorate.
The first reason Romney lost was because it is impossible to compete against “free stuff.” Giveaway is a powerful marketing tool. For example, the adults among the 47 million on food stamps clearly recognized for whom they should vote and they did, by the millions. The lure of free stuff is irresistible. It is documented that 47 percent of the people pay no income taxes and just receive free stuff from the government.
The second reason Romney lost is the inescapable conclusion that the electorate is ignorant and uninformed. The uninformed are easily swayed by emotion and negative campaigning and the electorate is changing. Whites will soon be a minority in America, as defined by many political studies and that new immigrants to America are primarily from Third World countries and do not share the traditional American values that attracted immigrants of previous generations. It is a different world and a changing America.
During the 1956 presidential campaign someone told Adlai Stevenson, “Senator, you have the vote of every thinking person in America!” He replied: “That’s not enough, we need a majority!”
The third reason Romney lost, in my opinion, is that takers outnumber the givers (producers) and that will only increase in years to come, defining a changing America.
Conclusion: If the presidential election of 2012 proved anything, in my opinion, it is that the Old America is going and, sad to say, it is not coming back. The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living!
