Mr. Grover W. Smith, 93, of Kennesaw, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013. He was raised in Crossville, AL. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 13th in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta with Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Dallas Highway in the Lost Mountain Community. Mr. Smith was a former member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon, a former member of Roswell Street Baptist Church and a current member of Lost Mountain Baptist Church. He graduated from Berry College with an undergraduate degree in agriculture and received his Masters in Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Smith retired from Sprayberry High School after 35 years of teaching. He was the first Director of what is now Chattahoochee Technical College. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Smith and Estella Viola Dial Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Glenn Floyd Smith; daughter, Glenda Smith Woodman (Steve); grandchildren, Brian Woodman (Reesa), Brandon Woodman (Lucy), Katherine Woodman Moyers (Josh); great grandchildren, Lauren, Caleb, Ava, Haven, Eisleigh and Luke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Smith’s name to New Beginnings United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2925 Mack Dobbs Road, Kennesaw, GA 30152. The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, August 13th from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta (770) 424-4924.
