There will be 102 candles on Oneda Pharr’s birthday cake on Aug. 21. Yep, you read it right — 102!

Oneda has lived in the same home in Marietta for more than 40 years. She has witnessed many changes to the community since she and her husband, the late William H. Pharr, moved to Marietta from Cedartown in 1950. Oneda was born in Cherokee County, where she lived in her youth until marriage.

Marietta was nothing but a big pasture with horses in it when Oneda moved here. Oneda, who never shied away from work, once owned a boarding house on Cherokee Street in Marietta off the Square with her husband where she cooked for 20 people at a time.

Oneda attributes balance and living a simple and frugal lifestyle to longevity. She never spent a lot of money.

Family is most important to Oneda. The grandmother of two grandchildren and four great grandchildren has lived to see her own children, Frankie Fisher and Charles Pharr, reach their 70s. She has one living sister, Geraldine Dobson of Smyrna.

In lieu of a party, the family requests birthday wishes to be sent to Oneda at 3634 Canton Highway, Marietta. 30066

It was the perfect evening for celebrating new love. Fiona Hay and Joel Bloom looked so happy at their recent engagement party at the home of Rachel and Jeff Byrd. Carrie Kennedy, Ginny and Gene Northcutt, Nancy and Brent Law, Debbie and Hank Randall, and Melissa and Ben Worley also hosted the lovely soiree.

Enjoying the wonderful food and ice cream bar was the proud mother of the bride, Lexis Hay, along with Mikel Crowely, Shelia and Gerard Frey, Anne Groenwald, Farin and Jeff Jaeger, Cyndi McIntosh, Pam and Randy Webb and others.

Surely you meant to say, "attributes her longevity to her frugal lifestyle", etc.
