A surprise 60th birthday party was presented on July 20, honoring Boyce Phillips of Marietta. Though the fete was spared from storms and rain, there was no sparing Boyce’s surprise. Boyce’s husband, Mike Phillips, along with great assistance from daughter Hannah Dichiara and husband Tony organized the party. Held in the common area of The Tradition on Kennesaw Avenue, guests feasted on Williamson Brothers barbecue and a birthday carrot cake prepared by Gabriel’s Desserts.

Out of town guests included son Matt Phillips, of Brevard, N.C.; Boyce’s sister, Alison Gibbes, with husband Berry of Columbia, S.C.; and her brother, Saunders Aldridge, of Little Switzerland, N.C. Local guests included Jim Aldridge, Alice Black, Lyn and Ken Daniel, Kelly and Robert Dichiara, Libby and Logan Hurt, Dottie McMullen, Jane and Bill Parr, Sheila Pause, Judy and Eddie Ross, Sylvia and Randy Sharron, Lauren Starliper, Sue and Jim Turriglio, Dianne Wallace, and Renate and Rick Young. Also in attendance were her beloved grandsons, Owen, and Evan Dichiara.

Mother Nature cooperated again on July 13 for a lovely “To Have and to Hold” celebration for Emory Horne and her fiancé Darrell Kent. The party celebrating the upcoming nuptials was conducted poolside at the beautiful home of hosts Carol and Don Wise of Kennesaw. Rachel and Jeff Byrd, Debbie and Taylor Freeman, Carol and Tom Giddens, Mary Anne and Jaime Lanier, Sharon and Dan Rakestraw, Debbie and Hank Randall, and Nancy and Chris Stowell also hosted the event.

Darrell’s mom, Martha Kent, attended from Alabama. Local attendees included Emory’s parents Terri and Bill Horne, brother Nathan Deeter, relatives Connie and Steve Buffington and Risa Fielder along with Martha and Ken Farrar, Jordan Freeman, Casey Giddens and Kelly Giddens.

A September wedding in St. Simon’s Island is planned.
