MARIETTA — A 78-year-old woman was assaulted and verbally abused by her grandson July 7, according to Cobb police.

Vanden Levi Clanton of Norcross was arrested Monday by Cobb County police on charges of confining Barbara Budner, who the arrest warrant described as weak from fighting cancer, in her home on Birchwood Way, off Austell Road southwest of Marietta.

The warrant stated Clanton pushed Budner down into a kitchen chair and refused to allow her to get up, while he stood over her and yelled for 15 minutes.

“(Clanton) grabbed the cellphone from (Budner) and threw the phone across the kitchen so the victim could not call 911,” the warrant stated.

Clanton then demanded Budner stand up and hit him, but she refused.

As of Saturday afternoon, Clanton had not been released from jail after being given a $25,000 bond.

He faces four counts, including simple battery against a person over 65, obstructing a person making an emergency telephone call, false imprisonment and simple assault.

Lisa Renea Redwine of Atlanta, who the warrant listed as Clanton’s girlfriend, was also arrested for being present and a party to the false imprisonment and abuse.

Redwine was released Tuesday on $10,000 bail.
