Is America a real democracy?

DEAR EDITOR:

It is hard to believe the recent court decision in Florida in the Zimmerman case. It demonstrated to the world where the United States is in race relations.

The words in the Constitution “That all men are created equal, with certain unalienable rights,” rings hollow as is not really practiced in this country as of yet.

One would think after 350 years of slavery and another 100 years of legalized segregation, our country would be much further advanced in racial equality. We constantly attempt to establish democracies all over the world, but we really need to examine if we have a true democracy here in the United States and are we truly “the last best hope of the world.”

Apparently George Gamble, in addition to countless african americans, have finally come to the painful realization that (once they were granted their freedom over 150 years ago) it was time to start taking care of themselves and (GASP!) accepting personal responsibility for their own actions.. Welcome to the REAL WORLD!

Sorry George, we do not have a Democracy. Our forefathers made this country a Republic.

Sorry, George. Not only is our Republic not a democracy, the words you quoted from the Constitution appear nowhere in the Constitution. They are from The Declaration of Independence and the actual quote is: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Were you asleep in History class?

George you live in a republic not a democracy. Did you pay attention in history class? The USA is not and has never been a "democracy"

A huge "thank you" should be sent to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for naming their first child George in honor of George Zimmerman who against tremendous odds won a significant victory for better race relations. We still have a long way to go but it is a good start.

Luek-You would have been far wiser to have kept your ignorant thoughts to yourself than to have spewed them out and showed your stupidity. If you are patting that murderous Zimmerman on the back for murdering an unarmed black teenager, then you are a racist of the worst kind, and oh, by the way, just in case you forgot, Zimmerman is a MEXICAN. How do we know his mother is even here legally? You are pathetic!
