The center, with 25 full-time employees, offers a full range of treatment, from routine sore throats to sports physicals, as well as newborn and infant care.
“Many urgent cares are not setup to treat infants,” said Sharon Woods of WellStar.
Woods said the site is equipped with labs and digital X-ray machines.
“All the imaging can be done right there,” Woods said.
Initially, the center will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but the hours will be extended starting in the fall.
“The Kennestone location is strategically placed to better serve the community with efficient, quality care, when our emergency department is at high capacity,” said Robert Jansen, vice president of WellStar.
The opening this week marks WellStar’s third urgent-care center in Marietta and its sixth in Cobb County.
Other WellStar Urgent Care Centers are located in Marietta on Powers Ferry Road, Marietta on Shallowford Road, Acworth at Health Park, Smyrna at Cooper Lake, and Kennesaw at Wade Green/Cherokee Street.
The centers provide treatment for routine conditions such as sore throats, stomach pains, minor injuries and illnesses, stitches for minor lacerations, lab and X-rays, specialty care referrals, occupational health services, worker’s compensation services, school and sports physicals, flu shots and free blood-pressure checks.
WellStar Health System is the one of the largest nonprofit health systems in Georgia and serves a population of almost 1.3 million residents in five counties.
