David Brent Culpepper, 48, of Hiram, GA died unexpectedly Tuesday at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mayes Ward Funeral Home, 180 Church Street, Marietta, with the Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating. A Rome native born February 18, 1965, he was the son of the late Rev. Ray Culpepper. He was a 1983 graduate of Coosa High School in Rome. David had a great love for travel, concerts and music. Immediately following high school he served as a late-night disc jockey for Rome Radio Station WLAQ. He moved to Marietta to join the Marietta 911 as a communications officer in February 1987 and continued with the organization after its merger with the Cobb County 911 in 1997. At the time of his death he was one of the longest serving employees and had provided invaluable service to hundreds of citizens in their time of peril and tragedy. He was a member of Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church, Rome. Survivors include his mother, Bobbie Graves Culpepper Shedd, step-father, Herbert Shedd of Bridgeport, AL; brother, Steve Culpepper of Rome; , step-sister Shelia Sexton, and step-brother Gary Shedd, all of Bridgeport; special friend, Faye Culpepper, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Culpepper of Woodstock, GA, in 2009. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday and other hours at the home of his aunt and uncle, Sara and Charles Graves, 319 Mt. Alto Road, Rome.
