MARIETTA — Cobb County police have made a string of arrests this month of teenagers and men accused of committing sex crimes against children.

The most-publicized case was the alleged sodomizing of a female student in the boy’s bathroom at Lindley Middle School in Mableton.

In that case, the mother of the 15-year-old boy accused of assaulting a female classmate turned him over to authorities.

An arrest the previous day on June 10 involved another minor, Stephen Dobbs of Windchime Court in Kennesaw, who is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.

Dobbs was charged as an adult and was not issued bond. He was moved to the juvenile detention center on June 11, according to the arrest report.

Dobbs also is charged with a felony count of sexual battery and a third count of child molestation.

The attacks began in May 2012 and lasted almost three months during the summer break, according to the warrant. The warrant stated the sexual assaults occurred on Windchime Court and Windchime Way.

Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for Cobb Police Department, said Dobbs was a neighbor of the victim and the rape happened outside of the young girl’s home.

Pierce said the victim went a long time before telling a family member.

As soon as that family member contacted the police, the department's Crimes against Children unit immediately acted, Pierce said.

Cobb Police made another arrest June 10 off Whitlock Avenue in Marietta. In this case, a 58-year-old man is accused of using a cellphone to videotape a 14-year-old in a bathroom.

Gerber Mejia of Cobb Parkway in Smyrna is charged with one felony count of eavesdropping-surveillance.

The first incident occurred at the beginning of August 2012 and continued until the end of last month, according to the warrant.

The warrant stated the footage shows the “victim getting out of the shower and drying herself in the bathroom.”

Mejia placed his phone underneath one of the doors of the bathroom, which had more than one entry, Pierce said.

Mejia’s wife reported the crime and there is a dispute on how she obtained the video footage, Pierce said.

The arrest report said Mejia also goes by the alias Gerber Modesto Cruz and is originally from El Salvador.

Mejia was not issued a bond because he is considered a flight risk, according to the warrant.

Well, it looks like there are large percentile of irresponsible parenting going on. No body watches their kids and from 7 on they do whatever they please because their stupid parents are doing whatever they please. No body ever told the poor dumb kids what is against the law. Wonder who is paying the bail bondsman and court fines when they spend time behind bars. Should have told the kids jail comes with doing things like that!!!

And please, parents tell your little girls to be mindful, careful of sly boys that lie to get to be so called "friends". Tell the girls how they can carry a lifetime of shame. Parents where are you.........
