El Pollo Dorado rules the roost when it comes to rotisserie chicken. “The Golden Chicken” keeps things simple.

“It’s just rotisserie chicken, rice, beans and potato salad. We do everything fresh daily,” said owner Jerry Luna. The eatery has been in business for 10 years.

Whole chickens are quartered at the restaurant and sold with or without sides. Family packs and larger packs for parties are available. Also on the menu are items such as burritos, quesadillas, nachos and salad.

Though the restaurant has a Mexican flair, Luna describes the rice as “a little different” and the potato salad and beans as American.

But the chicken can only be described as delicious. It is marinated overnight and cooked each morning.

“We cook everything fresh,” said Luna, an Acworth resident. “Nothing is frozen. Nothing comes in a can.” Luna and his wife, Rocio, have three children.

The most unexpected item on the menu is the potato salad.

“We learned to make potato salad. … People started bragging about it so we just perfected it. It was a hit so we just left it on the menu,” he said.

For first time guests, Luna recommends the lunch or dinner combo of chicken, rice, potato salad (and beans at dinner) served with tortillas and salsa.

“You can get the feel for what we have,” said Luna, who began working in restaurants at age 13.

He started a similar business in California in 1996 but moved to Cobb County after family members told him the area was good for business.

“We just took a shot at something that we thought was going to be good and stuck with it. That’s how it all became,” he said.

The restaurant is clean and the family running the business is helpful and friendly.

“We do our best to have a consistent product. We have a simple concept. We always try to give our best product and make sure it’s fresh and good and give the best service to our customers,” Luna said.

El Pollo Dorado is at 715 Sandtown Road, Marietta.

The restaurant is open seven days a week Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Catering and take-out are also available. Call the eatery at (770) 419-9496 for more information.

Good Food!

I work in local government too... Probably the same place as anonymous.. There aren't many choices at this restaurant, but you don't need them. The chicken is downright good. Whether quartered, or chopped in a killer burrito, it is all good. Oh, and the potato salad is GREAT!

Here is a good clue for folks that have never thought about it. If you frequently see COP cars in the parking lot, you can bet it is a good place to eat. Next time you go by, see how many marked and unmarked cars you see there.

Usually a good indication of a great place to eat.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I eat here about once a week. Jerry, the owner is a great guy and works really hard to make this place top notch. The quality of the food is consistently excellent. I could rave on!

I work in local government and have brought coworkers who have never been before and once they try it they love it! I’ve been eating here since 2007.

If you haven’t tried it yet, go today!

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. I work for local government and many of my coworkers visit this spot. I started eating here in 2007 and the quality is consistently excellent every time I eat there. I probably go once a week or sometimes every other week. Jerry, the owner is a really nice guy and he works really hard to make sure this place is top notch.

If you haven’t tried it yet, go today!
