From staff reports

The Cobb County Police officer who shot and killed an Acworth man Friday night has been identified as Officer B.J. Daniel.

According to a release from Officer Mike Bowman, Daniel has worked with the county department since November 2008. No other information about the officer was released.

Police were called to the home of 37-year-old Andrew Lambeth at 3520 Dallas-Acworth Highway just before 8:15 p.m. Friday in response to a man being armed with a handgun who was possibly suicidal.

When Daniel arrived, he observed Lambeth in front of the house, armed with a gun.

“The firearm was discharged and the officer was forced to fire his weapon to stop the threat,” the release from Bowman states. “The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The Cobb County Department of Public Safety’s Internal Affairs Unit in conjunction with the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call either (770) 528-3812 or (770) 499-3945.
