Frank Alton Collins, 83, Marietta, GA was born September 25, 1929 and died Saturday. June 1, 2013. Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church, Marietta, GA with visitation one hour prior to the service; followed by a reception at the church fellowship hall. Rev. Jane Nugent, Rev. Max Caylor and Rev. Richard Lumpkin will be officiating. The interment will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 10:30am on Friday, June 7, 2013. Frank was born in Newton, GA and has been living in Marietta, GA for the past sixty years. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He retired from Lockheed and was a retired Lt. Colonel in the USAF. Frank loved his family and most importantly he loved helping others. He was active in the East Marietta Lions Club for over 45 years and a member of the Powers Ferry Methodist Church since 1959. He devoted many hours to countless charitable endeavors in his community. He enjoyed NASCAR, Georgia Tech Football, boating, camping and absolutely adored gardening. Survivors include, wife Lester L. Collins of Marietta; son, Edward A. Collins and wife Charlotte of Decatur, GA; daughters, Leslie Collins of Beverly Hills, CA; and Cindy Collins Arnold and husband Kerry Arnold; grandson, Collins Arnold and granddaughter, Kennedy Arnold of McDonough, GA; and sister Gwen Kelly of Thomasville, GA Contributions may be sent to Powers Ferry United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta will be handling the arrangements.
