MARIETTA — In observance of the 26th anniversary of the annual National Cancer Survivors’ Day, WellStar Cancer Network, Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers and The American Cancer Society have teamed up to honor more than 1,200 WellStar cancer survivors at the “Growing Stronger Together” celebration Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
Dr. Mark McLaughlin, medical director of radiation oncology for WellStar, will be recognizing survivors and those in attendance will plant brightly colored pinwheels in the WellStar Cancer Center Garden of Courage. A potted plant from Home Depot and bookmark with embedded flower seeds from the WellStar Cancer Network will be given to each survivor as part of the Gifts To Grow program. Pat Jester, a cancer survivor, will share her story and read a moving letter she wrote to “cancer.”
The remaining festivities, including a buffet lunch and live music by Kris Roberson, breast cancer survivor and Marsha Nix, will be at the WellStar Cancer Center Garden of Courage. WellStar Health System, The Home Depot, Northwest Georgia Oncology, other key sponsors and the American Cancer Society have worked together to create this meaningful day to recognize, honor and support those who are an inspiration to so many in our community.
The WellStar Cancer Center is on the WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center campus at 320 Kennestone Hospital Blvd. For additional information, call (470) 793-HOPE (4673).
