U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder may be in jeopardy of losing his job because liberals are now calling for him to resign or be fired. They have, in effect, joined ranks with Republicans who have long been pushing for Holder’s ouster.

The precipitating factor for liberals apparently was Holder’s assault on freedom of the press via his Justice Department’s seizure of telephone records of the Associated Press and Fox News’ James Rosen. But the left has plenty of other gripes about Holder’s actions and inactions including the IRS targeting conservative groups, failure to prosecute Wall Street bankers for their role in the financial meltdown of 2008, the use of drones in the war on terror, etc.

It’s informative to read what some of the liberal writers are saying:

Matt Rothschild, editor and publisher of The Progressive magazine, wants Holder to step down or be fired because of government spying on the press and “infiltrating” Occupy protests. In an interview with the progressive Democracy Now, he cited “a number of reasons,” starting with “this scandal about investigating reporters.” He said, “I think that’s outrageous.”

Rothschild said Holder also “has been rationalizing the assassination program that the Obama administration has been engaging in, saying that a drone can drop a bomb on a U.S. citizen anywhere in the world” and the citizen “will already have had due process simply because the Obama administration itself or the president or the secretary of defense calls that person a terrorist.”

Michael Tomasky, Newsweek/Daily Beast special correspondent, nailed the Obama administration for its hypocrisy. He said, “It’s pretty clear that Obama has been waging a secret war and then pursuing journalists trying to dig into it with more zeal than even the Bush administration did.”

Describing Obama as a “process liberal” who just waits for the process to work in the scandals roiling Washington, Tomasky said the president “needs to crack some heads at the IRS and crack them fast. And now he ought to ask for Holder’s resignation. This week. Enough already. Holder’s rights here aren’t more important than Obama sending a strong signal that he is in charge and can make hard decisions. Holder will go off and make millions of dollars anyway and there are lots of other people out there who can be attorney general.” Tomasky concluded: “This isn’t a time for letting processes play out. This is a time to take action.”

The readers of this newspaper know of liberal columnist Bill Press’ call for Holder to go, citing numerous failings so far as the left is concerned. Among them: the inaction or failure to prosecute Wall Street bankers who “brought this nation to the brink of economic collapse and robbed Americans of trillions of dollars in savings…” Press also excoriated Holder for raiding the telephone records of the Associated Press and using the same tactics against Fox News’ James Rosen and even branding him “a criminal co-conspirator” — merely for doing his job!”

Amazing. Even liberals are seeing the real Obama.

Holder will wind up in good shape. Wealthy American liberals will have a job for him. Of course, if a Paul Ryan , for example , had shown this level of corruption and arrogance, they would be screaming for his head.
