A North Cobb High School football coach has been arrested on allegations that he sent and received sexually explicit photos by text message to a student.

Ryne Thomas Thackston of Acworth was arrested May 24 on one felony count of sexual exploitation of children. He was released from the Cobb County Jail the following day on a $20,000 bond.

“On March 5, (Thackston) did send and receive sexually explicit photographs via text messaging to and from a 17-year-old female,” the arrest warrant states. “(Thackston) received numerous digital images and videos of the victim via text messaging.”

The videos and photographs showed the teenage girl nude or partially nude and engaging in “lewd acts” or “sexually explicit conduct,” the warrant says.

Thackston was contacted for comment, but a family member who answered the phone said they have been directed by an attorney not to speak about the incident.

According to the 2012 North Cobb High School football program, Thackston was a wide receivers coach for the Warriors. He was not listed Tuesday on the school’s athletic website.

Cobb Schools spokesman Doug Goodwin confirmed that Thackston was a community coach at North Cobb High School and a substitute teacher. His last substitute teaching assignment was March 7.

Goodwin refused to release any more information on Thackston’s employment status citing the school district’s policy to keep quiet on “personnel matters.”

Phone calls and emails to the North Cobb High School Principal Philip Page, Athletic Director Joseph Horton and Head Football Coach Shane Queen about the arrest were not returned by press time Tuesday.

I cannot believe some readers feel it is OK for a teacher to engage in this activity. EVEN if a STUDENT sent them first. IDIOTS

I cannot understand why he is in trouble. She sent them to him first. Her Dad should be proud that his daughter found someone with a house, car, and a career. I mean next year when shes 18 it wouldn't make a difference, and shes most likely going to end up with a guy with no money, no car, no priorities.

So the "little girl" is the "victim" while sending photos back to him as well haha society

This happens so often and most of the time it goes unreported because both sides understand what they're doing... I wonder if this really impaired somebodies learning abilities or life....... Hmmm NOPE
Girl Arrested?

I would like to know if this 17 year old girl who sent pictures of herself nude was arrested? If not, why not? She is old enough to know better and it sounds like no one twisted her skanky arm to pose nude and send these photos. My son was in the 8th grade when he received a nude text from a girl. These girls don't care one bit. I do understand this coach is older and should know better, but maybe we should start arresting these girls. The girls parents should be ashamed of their daughter!

Reality check here.

A 17 yo is NOT a child.

Until the law is changed, 17 years old is still considered too young. You can't choose at what age you think it's appropriate for this behavior to be acceptable. Why would it be okay for a 17 year old and not a 16 year old? You can't make that distinction.

"Thackston received numerous digital images and videos of the victim via text messaging."

I hope this fragile "victim" isn't suffering to much.

Cobb County must hire some of the dumbest teachers/coaches around. How in the world, in this day and age as they say, could he expect to get away with it. Yet Cobb consistently has one of these situations pop up. Most of the time it's with an older student at least and the teacher just can't wait till graduation apparently. It's natural of course, and it's certainly gone on through the ages since there were teachers and pupils. Hormones tend to lead the way. But with today's digital media, hiding it is far more complicated and you just can't fool around with a subordinate in almost any situation.

BTW, Coaches, music teachers, etc, are probably more likely to form an emotional attachment to the student given the time spent practicing, etc. and availability of one-on-one time.

90% of the time Coaches are involved with this type of activity. What does that tell you about the mentality of these guys and gals?

Really? 90%? That seems a bit high. Please site your source or it that your WAG(wild a$$ guess)? I know many great men and women that are involved in high school athletics that are good citizen. Statistically speaking there are MORE non coach teachers involved in sexual conduct with students.

You responders must be coaches that have not been caught yet. The BMOC days are over when you leave high school or that small college....
