Prep Roundup: Walton, Walker off to good starts at girls state meet

The field events in Class A, AA and AAA took center stage at the girls state track and field championship meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany on Thursday.

Walker has 19.5 points and is currently in sixth place in the Class A private school division. Whitefield Academy is tied for 18th with three points while Athens Christian leads with 35.

Walker’s Courtney Rhule jumped four feet, six inches in the high jump to tie for fourth. She was also seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 32-02.00. Alexis Bruton cleared 9-00.00 in the pole vault and placed third, while Collier Middleton finished as the state runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 35-09.00.

Morgan Landers’ sixth place (32-06.00) showing in the triple jump helped put the Lady Wolfpack in the scoring column.

The finals of the Class AAAAAA 1,600 meter run also took place with Walton teammates Alexa Womack and Avery Bussjager finishing fourth and seventh respectively. Womack came in at five minutes and 2.25 seconds, while Bussjager crossed the line in 5:05.39.

After one event, Walton (7) is third overall with Johns Creek leading with 10 points.
