MDJ better off keeping columnist Foley

DEAR EDITOR:

All you conservatives out there keep writing in, hatin’ on MDJ columnist Kevin Foley. Don’t you realize you’re biting yourselves in the wazoo when you do that?

Even a good, right-thinking, conservative paper like the MDJ needs to devote a certain number of column-inches to opposing (i.e., liberal) viewpoints, in an effort — however misguided — to present the appearance of compliance with the spirit of the Fairness Doctrine. And like it or not, most liberal positions have some validity to them. There are, also, liberal columnists out there who, unlike Foley, routinely produce well-thought-out, perceptive, cogent, persuasive opinion pieces.

If the MDJ got rid of Foley, it might replace him with one of these writers. And then where would we be? We are far better off with Foley.

Eugene W. Turner III

By Golly Kev, I do believe you might be the Undisputed King of Fantasy Journalism! As liberals go, if you can't amaze them with intelligence, then baffle them with bulls**t. Seems to work well within the ranks of your party. And what a party it is - party like it's 1999 while the Dems dismantle the American Dream! The more I think about it, you just might be the Court Jester of Fantasy Journalism. You should consider yourself extremely lucky to appear on the same pages with reputable writers and thinkers. Ciao!

Kevin, have you been smoking banana peels again?

From where on earth did you concoct that mess of misinfromation? MSNBC, ABC. NBC or the Idiot's Guide to Spreading Liberal Feritilizeer?

The Fairness Doctrine applied only to radio and television broadcasting. The Fairness Doctrine has never applied to any print media (newspaper, magazines, etc.) The FCC gutted the Fairness Doctrine in the 1980's. The end result is a more robust discussion, both conservative and liberal, of issues without the nanny state of government watching your back. Opinion is fine. Libel is still a civil tort.

Dear Eugene W. Turner the Third - As you can see below, you have the crème de la crème of the local conservative intelligencia behind you.

After reading your brilliant post and those of Mr. Jim Stoll, runitscourse, had to laugh, and the estimable, Mr. Harry Hagan, I stand in awe of your collective wisdom, insight and intellectual curiosity. It must be comforting, Mr. Third, to know that you live in the company of such genius.

I don't hate Kevin Foley. My only problem with his writings is that they make me feel like throwing up on my breakfast. I realize that the ultimate goal of all liberal politicians is to change our country into The United Socialist States of America (USSA). All the non-political liberals can do is play "follow the leader" I have never met on who ever had an origional thought of his own. There's no use looking for one. When I reach a point when I can't stand to look at Foley any longer, I'll just cancel my subscription. I don't really need to allow his kind of drivel into my home.

Eugene, I see your point but the Fooley era has simply run its course. He wouldn't know an original thought if it smacked him upside his head. Just glance back and read his stuff and it's the same recycled, regurgitated liberal spin. I am really starting to feel sorry for him.

Kevin then trolls the MDJ blogs and interjects his acerbic and condescending words as often as he possibly can. He has several different nicknames but you can tell it's him and others call him out on this. He must have so much time on his hands. I wish he'd get a hobby. Kevin would be a much happier person in the long run. Instead, he's filled with a jealous and angry rage that really isn't becoming at all.

No, I won't sign my name so Kevin can do his usual, 'anonymous...whoever you are' song and dance. Quite honestly, he seems a bit angry and unstable and I'm not only leery of people like that, I'm just not going to subject myself to being on the receiving end of such mean spirited attacks.

Our country is a massive pile of crap right now with an arrogant man in office who is dividing this country, each and every day. My prayer is that he'll see this and change things but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

I laughed when I read this and quite agree. Foley is sort of a parody of what a real columnist should be! We will keep him, after all, he does take up space.

Thanks for this nugget of leftist logic, which is, as usual, anti-logic.

I do agree, though, about the "hatin' on" writing by conservatives. Giving any lefty any recognition in any way, is self-defeating. Liberalism is toxic and not good for humans, in its present form. A simple comparison of this country now, in 2013, vis a vis 1963, tells the tale. Not that everything then was perfect, by any means, but it was heads and shoulders above where the USA is right now. But hippies wearing blinders are not going to see that now, or ever.

Perhaps, when the whole ultra-fragile house of cards collapses, they will, but even that is not likely.

Mr. Turner the Third - It must be very upsetting when I present well-reasoned and arguments supported by facts, such as, Obama is successfully prosecuting the war on terror, something Bush didn't do, or, Bush was on duty when terrorists murdered nearly 3,000 people on 9-11.

You've been so steeped in far right propaganda for so long, you are "blinded by the right."

Anyway, Third, thanks for your thoughts and keep reading!

"Obama is successfully prosecuting the war on terror..."

If you can find three facts to back this up, you might be able to make this claim ("supported by facts"). But for every three you can come up with to support your side, I'll bet I can come up with a dozen to support the anti-Obama side. (that would be the pro-military, coherant foreign policy, recognizing reality side...not the hide Benghazi, leave our guys to die, out our special operators, deny Muslim jihad side).
