Jesse R. “J.R.” Summey, age 77, of Marietta, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Young and Brother Ronnie Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta. Serving as pallbearers will be Will Summey, Russell Moon, Matthew Lawson, Chris Moehrke, Bob Buchanan, and Billy Piepmeier. Mr. Summey, born in Cartersville, was a son of the late, Elihue and Nellie Summey. He served 28 1/2 years with the City of Atlanta Police Department, retiring as a detective. Mr. Summey served in the United States Army and was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. He also served as pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, Marietta; Riverview Baptist Church, Mableton; Clearcreek Baptist Church, Cartersville; Ponders Baptist Church, Smyrna; Bethany Baptist Church, Emerson; and Higher Ground Baptist Church, Dallas. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his Brothers: Francis Summey, Raymond Summey, Roy Summey, J.T. Summey, and Albert Summey; and sister, Maycille Hufstetler. Survivors include his wife, Barbara McEver Summey of Marietta. Sons and daughters-in-law: James Ray and Debra Summey of Douglasville; Jeffrey W., Sr. and Lynn Summey of Dallas. Daughter and son-in-law, Susan Summey and John Moon of Powder Springs. Grandchildren: Russell and Chelsea Moon, Jennifer Moon, Ashley and Matthew Lawson, Jessica Summey, Georgia Summey, and Will Summey. Great-grandchild, Gage Lawson; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway, Marietta, Georgia, 30060. (770) 432-0771.
