Joe D. Groover, 68, of Kennesaw died Thursday, May 2, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Marietta with Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Mr. Groover was retired from the Cobb County Government after 25 years of service, and served on the Board of Tax Assessors till present. He was a member of Lost Mountain Golden Kiwanis and a member of International Association of Assessors Officers. He enjoyed Scouts with his grandson, Austin, and walking his dog, Sherman, with his granddaughter, Ally. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In his later years he enjoyed RVing with his family across the country. He will be missed by all. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce Austin Groover; son, Sean Groover and wife Kelly; daughter, Jennifer Groover Childers; grandson, Stephen Austin Childers; granddaughter, Ally Elizabeth Childers; sisters, Elizabeth Cozart and Nancy Calkins. Nieces and nephews include Kelly Walsh, Tommy Campbell and families. Sister-in-law, Linda Austin Campbell and husband Ray Campbell. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be sent to the Weekday Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Marietta, 56 Whitlock Ave SW, Marietta, GA 30064. Family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 Saturday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
