Giselle Ortiz, 19, of Powder Springs died Saturday after collapsing in her dorm room at the school in Columbus.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan would not say what the precise cause of death was, based on an autopsy conducted Monday in Atlanta.
But he said there was no preliminary suspicion that the woman died from unnatural causes.
Bryan said the cause of death was pending toxicology testing, which could take four to six months.
“It was a tragic circumstance that happened to a very talented individual,” Bryan said.
Ortiz was taking medication for lupus, a disorder of the immune system, he said.
Bryan said Monday that Ortiz was in her dorm room Saturday morning and complained about abdominal pains to her roommate, who went to find help.
When the roommate returned, Ortiz was in cardiac arrest. She was taken to The Medical Center in Columbus, where she was pronounced dead.
Ortiz was a 2012 graduate of McEachern High School in Powder Springs and a music education student at Columbus State. She played the trombone as a member of the McEachern band.
