Mr. Fred Hayes, age 71 of Smyrna, passed away, Tuesday, April 23. A funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, April 27 at the First Baptist Church of Smyrna with Dr. Steve Kimmel and Revs. Bill Hayes and Cliff Duvall officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia National Cemetery. A longtime resident of Cobb County, Mr. Hayes served in the US Army at Fort McPherson and was a member of the Honor Guard. A retired from Marta after over 25 years and later retired from Pull-A-Part. He was a longtime member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Smyrna. Mr. Hayes was also a member of the Gideons, and was a Mason in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Rev. James Authur Hayes, Edath Conley, and Roberta VanHoose. He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie O’Neal Hayes of Smyrna, daughters and sons in law Lisa Hayes Mabry and Joe of Canton, Leslie Hayes Powell and Trey of Canton, brothers Bert Hayes of Louisa, KY, Earl Dean Hayes of Louisa, KY, sister Ruby VanHoose of River, KY, grandchildren Mason and Anna Grace Powell, and Luke Mabry. Those who wish may make contributions to the Gideons. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Friday, April 26 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.
